The Atterdag Village welcomes Carol Anders as the new president of the board. Anders will take over the reins from Chris Nielsen. Nielsen was board president for three years and served a total of six years completing his term limit.
Anders has a long history with the Atterdag Village beginning in 1988 when she was the Director of Nursing for its skilled nursing facility. Anders resigned her position when she was elected as Mayor of Solvang. “It was a struggle to work full time at Atterdag and fulfill my duties as Mayor” Anders said. Anders was called upon to co-chair fundraising for the renovation of the Atterdag Care Center with Don Sorensen. With the support of the community they raised a whopping 5.5 million for the project.
When asked what keeps drawing you back? Anders commented “We are blessed to have this treasure in our small community; it’s supported by the community, managed by the community, and serves our community, and I am proud to do my part. There have been many changes since I started working for the Atterdag Village over 25 years ago, but the main goal has always stayed the same, supporting our senior’s and their families. My goal as president of the board is to work with Executive Director, Chris Parker, and the rest of the board to complete the master plan, building the new assisted living building, adapting the current assisted living into a memory care unit, the addition of cottages, additional amenities for the residents, and renovating some of the original buildings. It’s an exciting time to be on the board as we move forward with keeping our community treasure a wonderful place to live for many years to come!”
